Best young adult fiction books – our highly recommended fiction books for young adults
Try the following fiction books if you’re always rushing to the YA section whenever you go to a library..
The Hunger Games
The Hunger Games (trilogy) is an absolutely fun read and will keep you on the edge (of your seat) the whole time.
Ender’s Game
If you find anything dystopian fascinating, you go ahead and try out Ender’s Game (By Orson Scott Card)-it’s really good.
Uglies series
If you have just read Ender’s Game, pick up Uglies– it is equally brilliant.
The Divergent series
The Divergent is another dystopian that you are likely to appreciate after reading the above recommended titles.
His Dark Materials
Your dystopian obsession will also be at home in His Dark Materials trilogy (By Philip Pullman)
There are dazzling characters and an indelible story.
And it’s worth mentioning that while some dismiss the book as anti-religious, the message in it is more humanist than militant if you look more keenly (in our opinion) so we feel it’s an appropriate read.
The Legend trilogy
If you have found dystopian fiction such as “The Hunger Games”, “Divergent”, and “Ender’s Game” incredible, The Legend should be the next series in line for you.
This trilogy is action-packed and you will be captivated wholeheartedly all the time.
John Green young adult fiction books
John Green’s YA fiction is super awesome too.
Oh and John Green’s books bring out inner monologues and teen dialogue in a very good way.
Green’s Looking for Alaska is a modern classic and brilliantly chronicles the lasting impact one’s life can sometimes have on another.
Looking for Alaska is closely followed by the celebrated An Abundance of Katherines.
Marcus Zusak YA fiction books
We also recommend Marcus Zusak YA fiction- a lot of young adults have plenty of good things to say about The Book Thief and we completely agree with them.
Once you finish it, read “I am the Messenger”- It’s a masterpiece as well.
Abhorsen trilogy (by Garth Nix)
Garth Nix’s series are on the whole pretty good with the Abhorsen trilogy being one of our favorites
The Old Kingdom is our second favorite and you may want to read the Keys to the Kingdom series as well.
His Dark Materials trilogy(by Philip Pullman)
His Dark Materials is a best seller that all young adults love.
This modern fantasy classic trilogy has been named one of the best of all-time by the Entertainment Weekly and will make you question everything you thought you knew about the world!
Sarah Dessen books
If you want to devour some amazing teen romance, you could go Sarah Dessen way.
Pretty much anything from her will blow you away – but Along for the Ride is extremely good!
Our recommended intense short reads
If you’re interested in intense short reads, you should take a look at the following two books:
- Give a Boy a Gun (By Todd Strasser)
- The Perks of Being a Wallflower(By Stephen Chbosky)
These all deal with depression and all other typical fun-sad stuff in some way.
We especially highly recommend The Perks of Being a Wallflower – it’s one of the books young adults can relate to (on many different levels) and it can help the reader overcome countless real-life issues.
You can add the Monster (by Walter Dean Myers) to your intense short reads list too.
Best young adult fiction books – more amazing young adult fiction novels
The Astonishing Life of Octavian Nothing(by MT Anderson)
If you’re into the history of science, we suggest you try The Astonishing Life of Octavian Nothing.
The book is written nearly as the autobiography of a slave boy (teenage)raised in Boston city, as a science experiment/research during revolutionary war.
Now, while everyone expects Octavian to prove that all black people lack the capacity to learn (a justification for black people’s slavery), he doesn’t and it turns out he’s wonderfully smart.
The book is morbidly funny and exceptionally entertaining to read.
Chaos Walking trilogy (by Patrick Ness)
Chaos Walking trilogy is also a scintillating, thrilling read and another sure bet.
Word of caution: The storyline can, on occasions, be a little dark.
Peter Beagle books
You can also turn to Peter Beagle books in particular “The Last Unicorn” and “Tamsin”.
Sure, they’re not technically written for young-adults but they’re perfect.
